Frequently Asked Questions

What is Orbit Station?
Orbit Station is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab with a beautiful, organized command center. It lets you group all your links into visual workspaces — like Work, Marketing, Finance, Creative — so everything you need is always one click away.
Is Orbit Station really free?
Yes — 100% free, forever. No account required, no sign-in, no hidden fees. All core features are available to everyone at no cost.
Does Orbit Station track my browsing or collect personal data?
No. Orbit Station is fully offline and stores everything locally on your device. We don't collect, transmit, or store any personal data. The only external request is to Open-Meteo for weather data (no API key or personal info required). See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I import my existing bookmarks?
Open Orbit Station, click the Import button in the toolbar, and choose from three options: import your open Chrome tabs, import Chrome bookmarks, or paste a list of URLs. Orbit Station will automatically organize them into workspaces.
What is Quick Add and how do I use it?
Quick Add lets you save any tab to a workspace instantly. Press ⌘⇧A (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+A (Windows) on any tab. A popup appears — pick the workspace and hit Save. Done in 2 seconds.
Can I switch between different views?
Yes! Orbit Station offers four views: Galaxy (visual clusters), Grid (tile layout), List (compact rows), and Board (kanban-style columns). Switch between them using the view bar or keyboard shortcuts G, D, L, B.
Will my data sync across devices?
Orbit Station currently stores data locally in your browser. If you have Chrome Sync enabled, your extension data may sync automatically across signed-in Chrome instances. We're exploring additional sync options for the future.
Which browsers are supported?
Orbit Station is available on the Chrome Web Store and works with all Chromium-based browsers including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc, and Opera.

Troubleshooting

Orbit Station isn't showing as my new tab

If Orbit Station doesn't appear when you open a new tab:

  1. Make sure the extension is enabled: go to chrome://extensions and check the toggle.
  2. Check if another extension is overriding your new tab page. Disable other new-tab extensions temporarily.
  3. Try restarting Chrome completely (close all windows).
  4. If the issue persists, remove and reinstall Orbit Station from the Chrome Web Store.
My links or workspaces disappeared

Your data is stored locally in Chrome's storage. Data can be lost if:

  • You cleared browsing data (including extension data)
  • You uninstalled and reinstalled the extension
  • Chrome storage was corrupted

To prevent data loss, we recommend periodically exporting your workspaces from Settings > Backup & Export.

Weather widget shows the wrong location

The weather widget uses your browser's geolocation. If it shows the wrong location:

  1. Make sure you've granted location permissions to the extension.
  2. If using a VPN, your location may be detected incorrectly. Try disabling it temporarily.
  3. You can manually set your location in Settings > Weather.
Quick Add shortcut isn't working

If ⌘⇧A doesn't trigger Quick Add:

  1. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts and check that Orbit Station's shortcut is set.
  2. Another extension may have claimed the same shortcut. Reassign it if needed.
  3. The shortcut won't work on Chrome system pages (chrome://, Web Store, etc.).
